Meg and Komie Vora of Delikate Rayne Reveal How Easy It Is to Be Stylish and Compassionate
Mumbai – For the first time, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has created a vegan fashion lookbook showcasing nearly a dozen stylish outfits – all created without fur, leather, wool, or exotic skins. The unique looks are modelled by two long-time PETA supporters: Bollywood beauty Adah Sharma and multitalented heartthrob Harshvardhan Rane.
It’s all thanks to Meg and Komie Vora, the founders of Los Angeles–based vegan fashion brand Delikate Rayne, who travelled from the U.S. to Mumbai to execute the collaborative lookbook in order to show Indian consumers how stylish animal-friendly fashion can be. The looks encompass both Western styles and the vibrant clothing that India is known for.
“[Y]ou can look hot, you can look cute, you can look awesome without having to kill someone else”, says Sharma. “[B]e comfortable in your own skin – you don’t have to take some other animal’s skin.”
Rane says, “You don’t have to be crazy about fur and leather … because I am sure and very confident that you wouldn’t want to be skinned alive to become somebody’s bag or belt. So if you are fashion conscious … let me guarantee you that everything I’m wearing right now is absolutely vegan.”
The lookbook includes five different looks each for men and women: Festival Vibes, Date Night, Dinner With Friends, Club Life, and Athleisure. Vegan fashions from numerous top brands and designers are highlighted, including Supra, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, Superdry, Babita Malkani, Redesyn, and many others.
More and more designers are embracing vegan fashion, and for good reason. As revealed by PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” – cows killed for leather, snakes killed for their skin, and animals killed for their fur are often mutilated and even skinned alive, and impatient wool industry workers have been caught throwing, beating, and stamping on sheep.
The lookbook features photography by Vishesh Verma and styling by Esha Amin. Sharma’s hair was styled by Krishna Kami and her make-up was done by Siddhesh R Nakhate. Rane’s hair was styled by Pawan O Duggal using Biotop Professional products and his make-up was done by Rohini Foregard.
