Sushi: Animal Abuse, Chemical Toxins and Filth?
Fish don’t really have the best rep. People think they’re slithery and slimy, and they have eyes on either side of their pointy little heads—which is weird, to say the least. Plus, the small ones nibble at your feet when you’re swimming, and the big ones—well, the big ones will bite your face off if Jaws is anything to go by.
India is the third-leading producer of fish flesh in the world, so it’s safe to say that most people don’t realize that fish are smart and very interesting animals with their own personalities—just like the dogs and cats with whom we share our homes.
Scientists even agree that the pain response in fish is basically identical to the pain response system in mammals and birds—meaning it hurts like heck to be hooked in the face and yanked out of their natural environment, just as it would if someone did it to you.Sadly for the fish, our new investigation reveals horrible suffering for these awesome animals, in addition to environmental devastation, unhygienic conditions and dangers to human health.
So next time you’re in the mood for sushi, opt to give our fish friends a break, and go for the yummy veggie kind instead!
