Raipur Police Register FIR for Dog Burning; PETA India Offers Rs 50,000 Reward to Nab Perpetrator(s)
In response to a report that a dog was burned to death in Shankar Nagar, Raipur, Meet Ashar of PETA India along with local activist Vanchana Laban worked with Raipur police to register a first information report against an unknown person or persons. PETA India is offering a reward of up to Rs 50,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this savage killing.

In a study of domestic violence victims, 60% of women said that their abusive partners had harmed or killed their dogs or other animals. According to statistics released by the National Crime Records Bureau, nearly 8,000 women are killed every year through “bride burning” after dowry-related disputes.
PETA India has long campaigned to strengthen The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA), 1960, which contains outdated, inadequate penalties, such as a maximum fine of only Rs 50 for convicted first-time offenders, although the Indian Penal Code contains stronger punishments. In a proposal sent to the central government regarding an amendment to the PCA Act, PETA India recommended significantly increasing penalties for cruelty to animals.
