Grant for Advancing Animal-Free Methods for Toxicology Testing

PETA India will award one grant to help advance the development and application of animal-free methods for toxicology testing.

Details and Eligibility

  • The award aims to further the laboratory research of a scientist focusing on advancing animal-free methods for toxicology testing.
  • The recipient will be selected based on their CV and project description (see the “How to Apply” section), including the scientific merits of their proposed project to replace testing on animals.
  • Applicants from any sector may apply (e.g. academia, industry, or government).
  • Projects using live animals, ex vivo animal tissues, or primary animal cell cultures will not be considered.
  • The recipient will receive a grant worth Rs 7 lakh to be used for animal-free testing.
  • Applications must be submitted by 6 January 2023, and one recipient will be selected in February 2023.
  • PETA India must be acknowledged as a funding source when the work is presented or published.
  • One year following the receipt of the grant, the recipient must send PETA India an approximately 500-word summary of progress on the project.
  • This grant is open to residents of India only. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.

How to Apply

To apply for the award, please e-mail the following to [email protected] by 6 January 2023:

  • Your CV and, if applicable, the CV of the principal investigator in whose laboratory you are working.
  • A list of your scientific publications from the past five years and, if applicable, publications from the same period of the principal investigator in whose laboratory you are working.
  • A project description (2,000 to 4,000 words) that includes the following:
  • The reason for your interest in advancing animal-free toxicology testing
  • The objective and status of the project
  • An explanation of how the funding would be used
  • Your short- and long-term career goals
  • A plan to disseminate and promote your work
  • An explanation of how the funding would increase the project’s potential to replace experiments on animals in your laboratory and other laboratories – with details of the type of animal experiment(s) that would be replaced by the project and the number of animals and the species of animal(s) who would be spared
  • A list of any animal-derived materials to be used in the study (e.g. ascites, hybridoma, or polyclonal antibodies, or foetal bovine serum). (Funding for projects that use animal-derived components will be contingent on their substitution with animal-free alternatives, if available.)
