Raipur Police Register FIR Against Driver for Running Over and Killing a Dog, Following PETA India Complaint
Acting on information received from eyewitnesses and CCTV footage of a community dog being run over by a car in Raipur, PETA India’s Dr Kiran Ahuja worked with local activists and promptly reported the incident to Civil Lines Police Station. The police registered a first information report under sections 279 (for rash, negligent driving) and 429 (for maiming or killing an animal) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The driver of the vehicle was reported to have made no effort to help the dog.
PETA India urges anyone who comes across an injured animal to immediately contact a veterinarian or an animal rescue group for help.
