Six Dogs Rescued From Deplorable Facility by Hubballi-Dharwad City Police, Following PETA India’s Intervention

During a raid conducted in Hubballi-Dharwad, six dogs were found housed in deplorable conditions at a former hospital building. Hubballi-Dharwad City Police, assisted by representatives of a local group, rescued the animals after receiving information provided by PETA India. A first information report (FIR) was registered by the Old Hubballi Police Station under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and sections 11(1)(a), 11(1)(f), 11(1)(h), 11(1)(l), 11(1)(g), and 11(1)(i) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, against Sudhakar Bhavanimath for causing the animals unnecessary pain and suffering.

The dogs were tethered on short ropes and kept in unsanitary conditions without adequate food or water. Disturbingly, animal bones and ashes were scattered throughout the area where the dogs were kept. In addition, no one was present to watch the animals, which could have led to a serious incident occurring. The rescued dogs have been temporarily transferred to a facility run by the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation – from which they will be moved to a more suitable place – and to People for Animals India’s shelter in Hubballi.

PETA India requested intervention by representatives of the local group, on whose complaint police conducted a raid on the premises where the animals were being held, and an FIR was registered against the individual responsible. Previously, PETA India had submitted a complaint to the Karnataka Animal Welfare Board, prompting it to issue a notice to the Hubballi-Dharwad SPCA to take necessary action against the owner of the facility for cruelty to animals.

PETA India urges anyone who comes across a case of cruelty to animals to report it immediately to local police or an animal protection group.
