Don’t Quarantine Your Animal Rights Activism. Help Online!
Right now, many of us are concerned about COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop rallying for animal rights and progressive change. Here are some easy ways you can keep rooting for animals online:
- Learn more about animal rights by reading online materials and books such as by PETA Foundation Vice President Poorva Joshipura or Animalkind by PETA India founder Ingrid Newkirk and bestselling author Gene Stone.
- Watch “Glass Walls“, our hard-hitting exposé of India’s meat, egg, and dairy industries, and challenge your friends on social media to watch it with a message such as “I’m vegan because I don’t support cruelty to animals. Will you be after watching this video?”
- Tap into the power of social media activism by following PETA India on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter so you can “like” and share content. Also, check out PETA India’s Hindi Facebook page.
- Veganise your family’s favourite meal, and then share the recipe online so your friends can try it. Here are some tips:
- Watch documentaries on Netflix, such as Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy, What the Health, The Game Changers, Okja, and others.
- Sign PETA India’s action alerts to campaign against abusing, exploiting, and killing animals.
- Take a selfie holding a homemade placard with an animal rights message such as “End Speciesism“, “Go Vegan“, or “I Support Animal Rights” and post it on social media. Don’t forget to tag @petaindia!
- Spread the word that dogs and cats don’t spread COVID-19, and share this letter from the Animal Welfare Board of India with your family and friends.
- Be vigilant: politely participate in online forums such as Quora and Reddit, where animal issues are being discussed, and urge others to have compassion for animals.
- The lockdown won’t last forever. Update your online dating profile to show that you are vegan and care about animals so you can connect with likeminded individuals.
