Indore Police Register FIR for Running Over Puppy, Following PETA India and PFA Complaint

Posted on by Shreya Manocha

Based on a viral video of a puppy being run over by a car in Indore in the presence of their mother and siblings, PETA India worked with Priyanshu Jain of People for Animals (PFA) Indore to get a first information report (FIR) registered at the Palasia Police Station. An FIR has been registered under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Section 11 of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960. The incident was reported to PETA India by many concerned citizens. The driver of the vehicle left the puppy crushed and bleeding and made no effort to stop or help.

PETA India urges anyone who comes across an injured animal to immediately contact a veterinarian or animal rescue group for help. It’s also important to stay with the animal and make sure that they’re properly treated and tended to. PETA India operates a 24/7 animal emergency line, 9820122602, which can provide callers with advice and local contacts.

PETA India has long campaigned to strengthen India’s PCA Act, 1960, which contains outdated penalties, such as a maximum fine of only Rs 50 for convicted first-time offenders.

Please join us in calling for stronger penalties for animal abusers.
