Metro Brands Partners with PETA India to Launch Vegan-Friendly Shoe Collection
Just in time for World Environment Day (5 June), Metro Brands – one of the largest footwear and accessories specialty retailers in the country, renowned for its innovation and quality footwear – has partnered with PETA India to launch the first-ever vegan collection by a major Indian shoe retailer, in honour of our colourful Earth and the animals who live on it. While leather-free shoes are available at other stores, the collection marks the first time a major Indian shoe retailer is celebrating vegan footwear through an official collection – namely, the brand’s latest tie-dye shoe collection, made with modern, comfortable, animal-free materials that are kinder for the planet.
“Metro Brands is proud to offer consumers our latest range – tie-dye in high-quality, animal-free materials,” says Metro Brands’ Ecommerce and Marketing President Alisha Malik. “Globally, a growing number of consumers have been choosing vegan shoes, and our focus on innovation, trends, and customer service means we provide consumers with options they want.”
Metro Brands’ decision comes as Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth researchers predicted in 2021 that “once the pandemic is over people are going to move towards vegan and sustainable apparel brands in India”. The Times of India also recently reported, “Sustainable vegan leather is becoming a fashion fad.” And a Credit Suisse Research Institute survey reveals Gen Z and millennial consumers in India are more likely to buy sustainable products.
