PETA Urges Defence Minister to Investigate Horse Deaths

Posted on by PETA

The recent news reporting that 13 horses were killed and four others were injured in Kashmir by an army vehicle, which is said to have run over them deliberately, has saddened India.

Upon learning about this horrific incident, PETA India fired off a letter to Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar calling for an investigation and action.

While punishment under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code may result in a heftier fine and imprisonment, the maximum penalty under India’s main animal-protection law, The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, is a fine of only Rs 50 for first-time offenders.

Please join us in urging Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen India’s animal-protection laws and ensure that animal abusers receive jail time and significant fines, as well as counselling and a ban on having contact with animals.
