Priyanka Chopra, Tom Hardy, and Casey Affleck Speak Up for Dogs in PETA US Video
Actor Priyanka Chopra has teamed up with Hollywood stars Tom Hardy and Casey Affleck for a new PETA US video that encourages viewers to treat their dogs like family members by never leaving them chained up outside to suffer in the cold, hungry and alone. American TV host Bill Maher, actor Edie Falco, rapper D.R.A.M., Latina superstar Kate del Castillo, and reality star Courtney Stodden also lent their voices to the project, which features real-life footage of neglected animals taken by PETA US fieldworkers.
The video begins with a shot of a chained dog sitting alone in the snow, while Hardy asks, “When you first got me, did you know that you were going to chain me up and leave me outside? Even in the cold and snow?” Then footage of an old dog appears, and Quantico star Chopra says, “Did you know that as I got old and stiffand achy, and I couldn’t get comfortable no matter how hard I tried … you would let me suffer, alone and in pain?” At the end of the video, Hardy asks, “If you did, then why did you get me at all?” Then the following message appears: “Treat dogs like family. Let them live indoors this winter.”
The dogs featured in the video were filmed near PETA US’ headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, where the group’s fieldworkers serve as a 24/7 resource for animals in need. They also serve more than 250 surrounding communities, providing dogs and many other animals who are forced to live outdoors with free shelter, straw bedding, food, water, veterinary care, and other necessities.
Every year, PETA US – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – receives thousands of complaints about people who leave dogs outside in the cold, rain, and other weather extremes. Dogs and other animals can suffer from frostbite and exposure, and they can become dehydrated when water sources freeze. PETA India and its global affiliates encourage families to keep their dogs indoors during the winter and all year long.
