Rahul Sharma Says, ‘Strike the Right Chord – Go Vegetarian’
Celebrated santoor player Rahul Sharma has been vegetarian his whole life, so who better to star in a PETA ad touting a healthy, compassionate and Earth-friendly vegetarian diet?
“I have been a proud vegetarian since childhood, and I feel that vegetarianism leads to a healthy mind and a healthy body”, Rahul says. “People the world over have discovered the benefits of going vegetarian, and I simply echo a global sentiment.”
Rahul’s high energy and good health are a testament to the many benefits of a vegetarian diet. Unfortunately, too many Indians follow a fatty, cholesterol-laden, meat-based diet. As a result, India now has one of the highest rates of heart disease and diabetes in the world. Studies show that eating meat is also directly linked to strokes and cancer.
Meat production also devastates the environment. In a scientific report, the United Nations determined that raising animals for food produces more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, planes and trains in the world combined.
Animals raised for their flesh are hit, dragged and cruelly and illegally handled, and they are often deprived of basic necessities such as food, water and veterinary care. At the slaughterhouse, they are killed in view of one another and are often dismembered and skinned while they are still conscious.
Whether you are concerned about your health, the planet or animals – or all of the above – the single best thing that you can do is to go vegetarian. And with so many benefits, why wait? Take the Pledge to Be Veg today!
